Kalkini Upazila (MADARIPUR district): Kalkini Upazila with an area of 279.98 km, is bounded by MadaripurSadar and SARIATPUR SADAR upazilas on the north, GOURNADI and MULADI upazilas on the south, GOSAIRHAT, Muladi and Damudya upazilas on the east, Kotalipara and Gournadi upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Arial Khan, Tarki and Bisharkandi.
Kalkini Town: Kalkini Town consists of 9 wards and 38 mahallas. The area of the town is 3.19 sq km. It has a population of 38833; male 49.73%, female 50.27%; density of population is 12173 per sq km. Literacy rate among the town people is 49.3%.
Administration: Kalkini thana was established in 1909 and was turned into an upazila in 1984. It consists of 15 union parishads, 160 mouzas and 190 villages.
Archaeological relics Remnants of the hermitage of the famous saint Syed Usman.
Population: Population 250916; male 50.37% and female 49.63%; Muslim 84.05%, Hindu 14.29%, Christian 0.31%, and others 1.34%.

Land use: Cultivable land 20951 hectares; follow land 6750 hectares; single crop 25.3%, double crop 55.63%, and treble crop land 19.07%.
Land control: Among the peasants 21% are landless, 29.07% small, 28.12% marginal, 19.76 intermediate and 2.05% rich.
Value of land: The market value of the land first grade is Tk 26000 per 0.01 hectare.
Main crops: Rice jute, mustard, pulse, wheat and sweet potato.
Extinct crops: Betel leaf, watermelon and bangi.
Main fruits Jackfruit, mango, papaya, coconut and banana.
Fisheries, dairies and poultries Dairy 36, poultry 106 and hatchery 9.
Communication facilities: Roads pucca 31 km, semi pucca 41 km and mud road 342 km.
Transport: PALANQUIN, horse carriage. These means of transport are extinct or nearly extinct.
Cottage industries: Potteries, goldsmith, blacksmith, wood work, mat work, date molasses production, sweet meat making, tailoring.
Hats and bazars: Noted hats and bazars are Khaser Hat, Jurgar Hat, Phasia Tala, Miar Hat, Gopalpur, Dasar Bazaar, Shashikar Hat.
Main exports: Jute, jute goods, molasses and sugarcane.
